See, in my area, when it comes to art you have only a few choices. Go to Michael’s or A.C. Moore (which gets to be too expensive really quickly) or order off the Utrecht website. Ordering online wasn’t happening because I had to order wet canvas carriers for class as well as a new easel because my previous one ended up with a snapped back leg last night. After 5 years too, which is awful for a wooden easel. It wasn’t the most steady or practical but it was a birthday gift and the only support i had at the time. So now I’m excited for my new one to arrive and I’ll try to post a picture then.
But anyways…after that whole ordeal I’m about $150 poorer. So I used a coupon at Michael’s for a giant tub of Gesso, broke out the dropcloths, and went to town on a lot of old paintings I was less than happy with
this was the first day’s attempt. There’s a barbeque grill under there holding it all up away from the wet canvas. Picture the look on my dad’s face for that. He loves his grill. I also used about 50 clothespins to fasten it all
it got better earlier today when i started putting the second coat on the canvases. i was more organized and my dad saved me a lot of window and door screens.
take that bird poop. I also found out bugs will steer clear of Gesso. Might be the smell, it is pretty sickening. Or the texture, it’s perfect for drowning. Either way, still good news for me
walking in the kitchen won’t be an option tonight. Sorry Parents.
so besides this there was shopping in the art stores with my dad, buying a new easel, and some new paints and canvas (‘ll try to post a picture of my studio area when the easel arrives and is set up) And thus ends my memorial day. It was a good one. :)
